Automatic Hand Dryers

Automatic hand dryers without buttons. The hygienic solution.

Automatic hand dryers work in the same way as the technology used in an automatic doors. Motion-sensors are an essential part of how these hand dryers work. Although they’re automatic – sensors work in quite a sophisticated way.

Emitting an invisible ray of infrared light, the sensor on a hand dryer is triggered when your hands move into its path. This bounces the light back into the sensor and switches the dryer on. The dryer automatically switches itself off as well as the hands are removed. Thus preventing wasted electricty and maintaining hygienic hands.

All Handy Dryers products are automatic but these are our best selling automatic hand dryers.

Key Features Of The Latest Automatic Hand Dryers

Automatic hand dryers have built-in infrared sensors that detect motion to turn them on and off without touching the dryer. Consumers are becoming evermore sensitive to hygiene in washrooms. Automatic hand dryers are clearly more hygienic than the traditional push button machines. Unfortunatly, not everyone washes their hands properly and push button machines help spread these germs.

The sensor will switch the sryer off usually within a second of the hands being removed so energy usage is reduced. Push-button dryers are usaually set to keep running for a set period of time which is often longer than is needed to dry the hands.

Automatic hand dryers also use less energy and require less maintenance than many older push-button dryers or paper towel dispensers. Less maintenance and energy usage results in a lower running costs.

How to install automatic hand dryers

The first step is to decide where and how high your automatic hand dryer should be mounted. The manuals for each hand dryer can be found on our site and should be referred to for additional guidance.

Hard wiring the hand dryer into the electrical supply should only be carried out by a qualified electrician.

Deciding where to put your hand dryers.

It’s best to look at the layout of your washroom. Consider the flow of people through the room. Make sure you avoid putting the hand dryer in a place that would mean the person would have to walk across the flow of people entering the facility.

Make sure you install the hand dryer too far from the sink. You’ll be able to minimise the amount of water that drips onto the floor from their hands by reducing the distance between the sink and the dryer. Check the IP rating of the dryer to make sure it is placed in line with the regulations and not too close to the sink for its IP rating.

Most automatic hand dryers have sensors so ensure the dryer is not directly above a reflective surface. Also to prevent the sound of the hand dryer from echoing around the washroom make sure hard reflective surfaces are at least 1 meter away.

Mounting height for a hand dryer

When it comes to mounting height, you should consider who will be using your washroom. If it’s an office, then adult heights should suffice, while schools will require children’s height. In public conveniences, you should provide a range of installation heights to suit all of your potential users.

Hands-under dryers

Hands-under dryers such as the Kangarillo 2 Eco Hand Dryer or Armadillo ECO Hand Dryer should be installed at the following heights:

All of these measurements are from the bottom of the dryer of to the floor.

Hands-in dryers

For hands-in dryers such as the Gorillo Ultra High Speed Hand Dryer or Gorillo Pro Hand Dryer, use the following installation heights:

These measurements are from the top of the unit to the floor.

Step by step

Warning: the following work should ONLY be carried out by a qualified electrician. Ensure that the electrical supply has been disconnected before commencing work.

Make sure the power supply breaker is switched off. Mark the location of mounting holes and wire service entry on the wall where the dryer will be installed and drill where necessary. Make sure you use the appropriate plugs for the type of wall where the dryer is to be fastened.

Please note that these are general instructions only; always consult the manufacturer’s instructions.
